Grace Etta Johnson, the daughter of Otto and Jenny (Loof) Johnson was born on February 5, 1915, on a farm 11 miles north of Mountain Lake, MN. She attended District #69 country school in Cottonwood County, and then Mountain Lake High School, graduating in 1933. Grace was united in marriage to John G. Peters on February 27, 1941, at her parents' home. On June 1, 1941, Grace was baptized upon confession of her faith and received as a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, where she was a member of Worship Sew, the Mission Society and taught both adult and child Sunday School. Grace and John made their home and farmed east of Butterfield, MN for 33 years, retiring in 1973. For 13 years, Grace worked at Butterfield Foods and was president of the labor union there. After retirement, they moved to Mountain Lake and spent winters in Mesa, AZ for 17 years. While in Mountain Lake, Grace worked at both nursing homes and volunteered at the Senior Dining and the Care and Share. AfterJohn died on April 19, 1993, Grace spent six more winters in Mesa and traveled rather extensively before moving to Parkwood Apts. due to health concerns. She suffered several strokes and a heart attack in June and moved to the Good Samaritan Village, where she remained until her death on Sunday, August 19, 2007. Grace loved to read and do needlework. She crocheted and embroidered beautiful pieces for friends and family until late in life. Grace is survived by a daughter, Jean Carlson and husband Lloyd of Odin, MN; a son, Richard Peters and wife Maxine of Eagan, MN; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Irene Loewen of Mountain Lake; sisters-in-law, Caroline Johnson of Windom, MN, Verna Johnson, Mary Johnson and Elsie Rahn, all of Mountain Lake, Emma Krause of Omaha, NE, and Berniece Peters of Chaska, MN; brothers-in-law, Raymond Oeltjenbruns, Henry Peters and Isaac Peters, all of Mountain Lake; several nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Gertrude Harder, Ella Olson, Verna Oeltjenbruns and Mabel Johnson; and six brothers, John Otto, Harm, Elmer, Lawrence, Leland and Henry in infancy.
