Gordon Petersen

July 31, 1927 — January 3, 2008

Gordon David Petersen was born July 31, 1927 at Morgan, MN to parents David Dagny (Knudsen) Petersen. He attended Comfrey High School for 3 years and graduated from St. James High School in 1945. Gordon enlisted in the Navy in the spring of 1945, serving aboard the USS Tarawa. He was honorably discharged in August 1946. Gordon has been a member of Augustana Lutheran Church since 1944, he sang in the choir for over 60 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and St. James V.F.W. He served on the Honor Guard since 1946. He was the manager of the VFW Youth baseball team for 4 years. Gordon started farming in 1946 with brother Douglas. They raised cattle and hogs and worked many part time jobs through the years. He retired in 1988 but continued to help his son farm until the time of his death. Gordon loved fishing, hunting and especially chasing big Northerns. Hunting trips with Ruben, Henry, Douglas, and the boys were great times. Two of his greatest joys in life were camping with his wife and watching his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter grow. Gordon is survived by his wife Lorraine of St. James, daughter Cyndy (Jim) Hjermstad of Cannon Falls and their children Megan and special friend Pete, Aaron, and Alex, daughter Darla (Mike) Honnette of Dunnell and their children Natalie (Doug) Cepress, Mandy (Joe) Witt and their daughter Ramsie, Ross and Fiance Miranda, Jordan and special friend Katie, son James (Michelle) Petersen of St. James and their children BreAnna, Brooks, Bransen, and Bailey, son Keith Petersen of Butterfield, sisters Adeline (Hart) Story of Elk River, Elaine (Dick) Phillips of St. Paul, Sharon Creamer of Roseville, sister-in-law JoAnn Petersen of St. James, numerous loving nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Douglas, nieces nephews Judy, Nancy, and Larry Story, David, Mike and Jody Petersen, and brother-in-law John Creamer.
