Gordon Philip Johnson was born September 9, 1924 on the family farm in rural Madelia in Blue Earth County, Minnesota to parents Bertel Louise (Pederson) Johnson. On February 8, 1958, Gordy married Doris Koop in New Ulm. Gordon served for many years on the council of his church, Our Saviours Lutheran in Butternut and on the Lincoln township board. His life revolved around his faith, his farm, his family and his friends. He was a man of his word. His handshake was as good as any contract. He began farming with his father, later with his brother and then independently, on the farm which had been in the family for over 125 years. He farmed all of his life until his retirement in 1989. He took great pride in caring for the land and enjoyed each stage, from planting to harvest. He was able to fix almost anything, from a simple plumbing job to the engine on his combine. He built the home that he and his wife lived in since 1967. He was generous with this talent, often helping out friends and neighbors when their machinery or vehicle broke down. After the work was done, he always made time to take his family on vacation. He loved the north woods, the lake, boating and fishing. Many of his best hours were spent with friends and family during the early morning hours, trolling for Walleye on a northern Minnesota lake. His family always came first, from his wife, daughters and then, finally to his grandchildren, which he would tell you he had to wait 70 years to enjoy. Gordy is survived by his wife, Doris (Koop) Johnson of Madelia, daughters, Jo McKay Duane Prinzing of Randolph, Joyce Johnson Bradley Hale of New Ulm, grandchildren, Alex McKay, Ben McKay, Dezi Prinzing, Delaney Prinzing, Brandon Hale, Jessica Hale, brothers, Luther (Elizabeth) Johnson of Lake Crystal, Richard James (Ardis) Johnson of Madelia, sister-in-law, Verna Neumann of New Ulm.
