Glen Robert Carlblom

Glen Robert Carlblom, age 94, peacefully departed this life Sunday, October 1, 2017, in his apartment at Ecumen Prairie Hill in St. Peter, Minnesota. The second oldest of five boys, Glen was born February 1, 1923, in Terry, Montana, 20 miles from the farm homesteaded by his parents Elmer Clarence and Florence (Groves) Carlblom. When he was five years old, his family relocated to Cokato, Minnesota, and eventually settled in Delton Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota. Glen grew up on the family farm, was educated at the little country school just one-half mile down the road, and graduated from Jeffers High School in 1940. Glen farmed with his father and brothers and then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 in Guam and China. (He was a member of the American Legion Mountain Lake Post 389.) He attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis (whose president during this time was the Rev. Billy Graham) and then returned to farming. Glen married Luella Toews at the Alliance Missionary Church in Mountain Lake on October 14,1950. The couple farmed together for 38 years. They began spending their winters in Arizona in 1982 and retired from farming in 1988, settling permanently at Superstition Sunrise Resort in Apache Junction. As a teenager, Glen had dedicated his life to following Jesus and was active in the Jeffers Baptist Church where his parents were members. Glen enjoyed music and sang in the church choir as well as in a small ensemble with his four brothers. This tradition continued in later years, as he and Luella shared a love for Christian music. During the half hour drive between their farm and the church where they worshipped, Glen and Luella encouraged their five children to sing in order to pass the time. Thus honing their sense of harmony together, the Carlblom family was often called upon to sing at a variety of church functions. Glen and his family were faithful members of the Alliance Missionary Church in Mountain Lake, where he participated in the mens fellowship group, sang in the church choir, and served as a Bible teacher, Sunday School superintendent, elder, and member of the governing board. He also contributed public service as a member of the Jeffers School Board and the Farmers Co-op Oil Association Board. He was also very involved with The Gideons, both in Minnesota and Arizona, and upon retirement he was an active participant in theSuper Sun Chapel at the Superstition Sunrise Resort. Glens compassion for people and a desire for others to experience the relationship he had with Jesus were reflected in his love of teaching the Bible, his work with The Gideons organization, and his passion for Christian missions. Glen was a gentle man of quiet strength, a man of character and integrity, with an unwavering faith in God and love for people. His life evidenced his close relationship with Jesus, was an example of faithful service for his Lord and Savior, and left the testimony of a godly legacy. Some might say the world is losing a good man. But in reality, Glen Carlblom lives on in the countless lives he touched. Glen Carlblom is survived by son Doyle (Dori) of Hong Kong; son Torrey (Julie) of St. Peter, MN; son Rollin (Linda) of Chandler, AZ; daughter LuAnn (Kerry) Raadt of Northfield, MN; son Brian (Sheila) of Marion, IN; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; Luella, his beloved wife of 59 years; and brothers Mervin, Elmer, Duane, and Arlen. In lieu of flowers, Memorials are preferred to The Gideons International.
