Glen Borchardt

Glen Norman Borchardt was born July 6, 1931, in Welcome, MN to Hugo and Mildred (Weseman) Borchardt. Glen attended District 10 country school and graduated from Windom High School in 1948. After high school he worked at various jobs until 1950 when he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force. Glen served for 8 years in the Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Washington, Arizona, Libya and Spain. Following his Honorable Discharge, he farmed. In 1964 he began working for Clark Forklifts for 8 years. In 1973 Glen started his own business, Windom Forklift Services, and ran that until his retirement in 2002. He married Elizabeth Kleinow in 1952 and to this union four children were born. Glen was united in marriage to Elaine Elg (Tindeland) on April 30, 1994, at Faith Lutheran Church in Comfrey. He was a member of the Prairieland Antique Car Club holding many offices, Albin Johnson American Legion Post #244, the Lions Club, and served as an Elder at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Windom. Glen enjoyed camping, traveling, restoring antique cars and tractors, collecting antique toys, reading, theater, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Glen Borchardt died Monday, July 30, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 87. He is survived by wife Elaine of Comfrey; children- Marty Borchardt of Anoka, MN, Janice (Curt) Paulson of Dardenne Prairie, MO, Jill Meyer of Dardenne Prairie, MO, and Barb Karschnik of Windom; step-children- Cindi (Jay) Drury of Springfield, Cheryl (John) Mathiowetz of New Ulm, and Connie (Dean) Stromseth of Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons- Benjamin and Ryan Hartman in infancy; son-in-law Pastor Chuck Meyer; and sisters- Shirley Axford, Joyce Voth, and Velma Andersen.
