Gladys Dutchie Sandmeyer passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James. Gladys Mary Dutchie Curry was born on July 18, 1929 in Butterfield, MN, to parents James & Dorothea (Dougherty) Curry. Gladys grew up in an orphanage in Wabasha, MN, along with her brothers and sisters. Gladyss older sister Lorraine was the first to leave the orphanage and move to St. James, Dutchie and the others all eventually came to St. James. She worked at Swans Café and Toots and Harrys Café before going to work at Scherr-Tumico where she worked until her retirement. On June 9, 1956, Gladys married Virgil Sandmeyer, the couple had 2 children, Gloria and Steve. Dutchie was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin, fishing, visiting with friends on the phone, watching her favorite teams, the Twins and Vikings, and babysitting Bailey for Steve and Lori. Gladys is survived by her children; Gloria & Bill Thulien of St. James, Steve & Lori Sandmeyer of St. James, grandson Joseph Thulien of St. James, brother Stan Curry of Mason City, IA, in-laws; Bob & Arlene Roeglin of St. James, LuEtta Sandmeyer of Windom, Jermaine Grove of Windom, several nieces, nephews, cousins and the dogs Bailey, Buffy and Ally. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Keith Curry and Lawrence Curry, sisters Lorraine (Art) Mulso, Evelyn (Enard) Warling, Bonnie Curry, in-laws; Jerome Sandmeyer and Jerry Grove. Visitation 1 9:30 am - 10:30 am Saturday, September 30, 2017 St. James Catholic Church, St. James 623 4th Street S. Saint James, Minnesota, United States 56081 A rosary will be recited at the church at 9:15am Saturday.
