Gladys Askeland

Anna Gladys Johanna Warling was born June 6, 1919, to parents Carl Anna (Hurtig) Warling in St. James, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church. She attended rural school in Riverdale Township. On March 1, 1938, she was united in marriage to Albert Askeland. The couple farmed near Godahl. Albert died on December 6, 1974. Gladys stayed on the farm until 1999 when she moved into St. James. Gladys worked at the Godahl Store for a number of years. Since Gladys' mother died at the time of her birth she and Albert took in many foster children. She was active in her church and enjoyed making quilts for the needy. She also loved her flowers, plants and gardening. She enjoyed playing cards and socializing with her friends. Gladys loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Esther Wolner and brothers Rudolph, Enard and Arthur. She is survived by her daughters Katherine (Robert) Luther of Lewisville, Karla Van Eman of Mankato, son Ronald (Debra) Askeland of San Diego,CA, sister Ardis Hanson of Butterfield, brother Edwin Warling of St. James, grandchildren Kimberly (Gerald) Gieseke, Bradley (Maria) Luther, Kristi (Greg) Abler, Michael Van Eman, Angela Van Eman, Sarah Askeland, Karen Askeland and six great-grandchildren.
