Gilford Nathaniel Staus Jr. age 81, of Lake Crystal, MN, died on January 3, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

A memorial service will be held at the Sturm Funeral Home, Madelia Chapel, 303 East Main St, Madelia, MN 56062 on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 12:00 pm with visitation one hour prior.

A private interment will take place at a later date.

Gilford "Gil" Nathaniel Staus, Jr. was born July 5, 1942 in Larimore, ND, the son of Gilford and Marcelline Staus.  He graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1960 and attended the University of ND, majoring in Business Administration.  He served as a Medic in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.  He was the second in charge of the ND State Mill and Elevator, followed by holding numerous sales positions with Peavey Company, Hubbard Milling Company and GTA Feeds before opening his own business, Westerns Pet Treats in La Salle, MN in 1995.  Gil was an avid outdoorsman enjoying numerous annual hunting and fishing trips, plus he was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan and Minnesota Vikings fan.  Gil was united in marriage to Janice Fish in 1965 and with their union they had three sons and later divorced.

Gil is survived by his sons, Joe Staus of Butterfield, MN and Jade Staus of St. James, MN; two grandchildren, Amelia and Otto; sister, Marlene Glasgow of Reno, NV; brother, Ronald Staus of Denver, CO; special companion, Judy Meyer of Lake Crystal, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his eldest son, Jon Staus; brothers, Wayne Curtis and Marvin Dewayne, Sr., and brother-in-law, Ed Glasgow.
