Gertie Lucille Menken, the daughter of Louie and Hattie (Elsing) Menken was born on May 16,1925 in Brown County, MN. On October 18, 1945, Gertie was united in marriage to Edward Gerhard Radtke at the Christian Reformed Church near Mountain Lake, MN. They farmed in the Butterfield and Delft, MN areas until 1962, when they moved in to Mountain Lake. Gertie worked at the Hiebert Greenhouse in Mountain Lake for 30 years and always enjoyed working with flowers and plants. Ed died on October 24, 2004.Gertie was a member of the Immanuel Mennonite Church in Delft, where she was active in many committees. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting and embroidering, reading, walking, cooking, baking, making candy, and traveling. Gertie especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and making them care packages and birthday cakes. Gertie Radtke, age 80 ,of Mountain Lake, MN died on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake, MN. Gertie is survived by two sons, DeLyle and his wife Pam Radtke, and LeRoy and his wife Diane Radtke all of Mountain Lake; two daughters, Linda Coe of Pleasanton, CA, and Judith and her husband Jerry Friesen of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Henrietta and her husband Menno Hulzebos of Mountain Lake, and Marcella Barlow of San Marcos, CA; two brothers, Duane and his wife Elsie Menken of Fort Morgan, CO, and Delmar Menken of Hot Springs, SD; a step-sister, Susan and her husband Jerry Neufeld of Mountain Lake; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Helen (Stoesz) Menken; her husand, Edward Radtke; a brother, LaVerne Menken; two sisters-in-law, Alice Menken and Bonnie Hyde; and a brother-in-law, Nathan Barlow.
