Jerry was born on September 29, 1945 in the corner of the kitchen of his family home in Comfrey. He was the first boy born after five girls, and legend has it his father Walter could be heard across town yelling “finally, a boy!”. His birth was followed by four more sisters before finally getting a brother at the age of 15. He was raised in a loving home with a close-knit family that instilled in him the values of love, compassion and hard work. Jerry and his siblings shared a deep and unbreakable bond until the very end.

After raising enough of a ruckus with his buddy Earl and graduating from Comfrey High School in 1963, Jerry joined the Army and served from 1965 to 1968 with a 13 month tour in Korea. He married Galen Cox in 1969 and they had three daughters. This marriage was dissolved in 1996. Jerry was employed by Land O’ Lakes from 1973 to 1990 and was the State Butter Making Champion in 1984. After the plant closed, he worked for Bassetts in Sanborn and Norwood in Sleepy Eye until retirement. Jerry was an amazing cook, and enjoyed hunting and fishing, teaching his daughters, granddaughters and great-grandson to fish. It was important to Jerry that his daughters be equipped with the tools to be strong and independent, making sure they knew how to change oil, fix things and forced them to spend many hours splitting and hauling wood. Jerry was patient, affectionate, and kind, never hesitating to express his love and gratitude. He was a recovering alcoholic and celebrated 13 years of sobriety, something he and his family were very proud of.

Jerry is survived by his daughters - Shannon Cedillo, Kim (Ray) Werner, Melanie (John) Shamp; granddaughters Abigail, Aubrey, Chloe and Erin; grandson Anthony; step granddaughters Lily and Grace and great grandsons Nolan and Geo; sisters - Barb (Curt) Johnson, Nancy (Jim) Sartor, Cindy Blackstad and brother Danny (Terri Tolliver) Wall; along with many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. He was greeted on the other side by his parents, Walter and Bertha; sisters Lora, Dorothy, Lucy, Evonne and Diane; brothers-in-law Andy, Richie, Lynn, Fran and Steve; and his four legged companions Angel and Daisy.
