Gerald Gerhardt Urban, age 86, of Madelia, Minnesota, died on July 2, 2026, at his home.

A Memorial Service will be held at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 11:00AM. A visitation will take place at the church prior to the service from 9:00AM until 11:00AM.

Gerald Urban, devoted husband, loving father, and cherished member of the Madelia community, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on March 22, 1940 to Gerhardt and Sylvia Urban, Gerald spent his entire life in Madelia, where he was a beloved fixture of the town.

Gerald spent 65 years with the love of his life, Sandra. They were married on December 18, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville, MN. Together they created a warm and welcoming home on Buck Avenue, where they resided since 1960. Gerald was a faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church for 59 years, where he served in various leadership roles throughout the years.

Gerald owned and operated Madelia Sanitation for many years. He also dedicated over 30 years to the Madelia Fire Department. In his free time, he found joy in fishing, deer hunting, woodworking, and playing board games and cards, particularly Wahoo, always relishing moments spent with family and friends.

Gerald is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Urban; 5 children, Lou Urban, Lori (Jim) Wall, Lisa Lee, LeRoy (Monique Hoffman) Urban, Lowell (Angela) Urban; grandchildren, JJ (Priya) Wall, Megan (Taylor) Ahlness, Alex (Robert Tobrexen) Wall, Mary Lee, Nicholas Urban; siblings, Jen Krohn and Brian Urban.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhardt and Sylvia Urban; parents-in-law, Herman and Florence Loge; sister, Carol Grev; brothers-in-law, Carlyle Matheson, Don Folven, Arnie Karge, Loren Loge, Eugene Grev; sisters-in-law, Dona Matheson, Mina Folven, Marvis Karge, Lina Loge; nephews, Gary Folven, Steve Karge and Matt Loge.
