Longtime resident Gerald "Jerry" D. Fox age 80 of Mountain Lake, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Windom Area Hospital. A Memorial Service was held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 18, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Mountain Lake. Pastor Sarah Butler officiated and Pam Logue was the organist. Visitation was 4-6 PM Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake. Gerald David was born to Edwin Maxwell and Hazel Katherine (nee Brashear) Fox in Palestine, Illinois on January 12, 1932. Gerald graduated from Palestine High School and in 1953 he graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana where he was a member of Alpha Zeta Fraternity. He served in the US Army in the early 50's and on June 8, 1952 married Betty Carol (nee Salter) in Palestine, IL. In 1961 they moved to Mountain Lake. Jerry worked for Hormel, first as a hog buyer and later as a plant foreman. A member of Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, and Audubon, Jerry was passionate about the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, kayaking, canoeing, camping, and bird watching. He was young at heart, learning to downhill ski at age 54 and wind surf at age 56. He once drove a moped to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. He enjoyed being with people and telling stories. He was an active member of the Windom American Legion, Post 389, the Mountain Lake Senior Center pool players, coffee groups and attended water aerobics classes. A world traveler, Jerry enjoyed art and culture, reading, and music, especially classical. He piloted a Cessna 172. Gerald Fox was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Lee Fox. He is survived by his wife, Betty, Storden; children, Kaye Fox, Kent, WA, Keith E. Fox (Joseph A. Levi), Providence, RI, and Beth Fox Heisinger (Craig), Bainbridge Island, WA; sister, Janice Fox, Mankato; grandchildren, Mckinley and Cayson Fox-Cowart, and Ava, Evan, and Noah Heisinger; sister-in-law, Juanita Fox; brother-in-law Donald Salter (Jeannette); nieces and nephews, Jon Fox, Katie Smith, and Jeff Fox, David Gregg, Daniel Salter, David Saiter, Doug Salter, Donna Kleindorfer, Debra Williams, and Danette Salter; and many other relatives.
