George Moe

January 20, 1913 — February 3, 2009

George Raymond Moe was born January 20, 1913, in Brown County, the son of Clarence M. and Maren (Sorum) Moe. He grew up and lived his entire lifetime in Burnstown Township, attending rural school District #40. On August 14, 1938, he married Lavina Burghart at St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield. To this 14 year marriage was born three daughters, the first died at birth. He married Sephorah Burckhardt Nixon on June 24, 1977. During George's teen and early adult years he played baseball with several area teams. He farmed all of his life, if not crop land he was growing flowers, especially roses. He was a member of the State Horticultural Society. He also was a member of several farm organizations and a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield. He especially enjoyed bowling and dancing. Survivors include daughters, Myrna and husband Fred Earles of Lansing, Michigan and Loah Bennett of Hot Springs, Arkansas; brother, Roy and wife Margaret Moe and sister-in-law - Genevieve Moe of Springfield; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Maren; one sister, Ida and husband Gustav Anderson; four brothers, Arthur and wife Grace Moe, Clarence and wife Hertha Moe, Louis Moe and Norman Moe.
