George Joseph Roiger

George Joseph Roiger was born on May 23, 1923 in Springfield, Minnesota to John and Elizabeth (Schneider) Roiger. He attended school in Springfield and was a member of the United States Army Signal Corp in World War II in Italy. On August 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to Frieda Kaul in Springfield, MN and celebrated 65 years of marriage together. George worked for Bright's Service Station, the PandM Market, and Tauer's Supervalu. George loved spending time with his family, and his love for gardening especially puttering in his yard and large garden, playing old time music with friends and relatives, fishing, playing cards, delivering meals on wheels, and the many summer trips to Northern Minnesota. He was a fan of all Minnesota Sports teams mainly the Twins. He was a life long member of St. Raphael Catholic Church where in his younger years he sang in the choir, the American Legion Post 257, and the VFW. George loved people and people loved George. A friendly and outgoing man who was always in a happy mood. He was one of a kind who will be greatly missed by his family. George died on September 6, 2016, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm, MN at the age of 93. George is survived by sons and daughters - Charles (Vicki) Roiger, Kathryn (Nicholas) Highland, Gretchen Roiger, Michael Roiger, Susan (Robert) Newman, Heidi (Patrick) Linder and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife - Frieda; brothers - Adolph, Albert, Joseph; sisters - Anna Margaret Steffel, Elizabeth Sorenson, Frances Scherer, and Marie Ochs Wertisch.
