George Hansen

December 17, 1903 — October 9, 2004

George S. Hansen was born December 17, 1903 at Menagha, MN, to James and Anna (Christensen) Hansen. At a very early age the family moved to a farm north of Mountain Lake where he spent his growing up years. He graduated from the Comfrey PublicSchool in 1922 and then attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, MN. He worked in a bank for 8 years and then returned to the Mountain Lake area to farm. In 1935 he married Edna Grundmeier and together raised Edna's daughter ShirleyGrundmeier Janzen. Edna passed away in August 1941 after a lengthy illness from a brain tumor. On September 6, 1952 he married Shirley Banks. In 1956 they moved to Darfur, MN, where they purchased an insurance and accounting business. They lived therefor 38 years. George was active in th Comfrey Congregational Church, treasurer of the Darfur Fire Department for many years, Village Assessor, Selma Township Assessor, clerk of the Darfur School and member of the Commercial Club. In 1984 he joined theAlliance Missionary Church in Mountain Lake. In 1990 he retired and began spending winters with his wife in Apache Juction, AZ. They moved from Darfur to Mankato in 1994 and in July, 2002 moved to Mountain Lake. George entered the Good Samaritan Villagein June, 2003. He was a a very loving and happy person, always praising God for his salvation, his good health, and his family and friends. He had many happy memories of his favorite past time, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Hansen of Mountain Lake; daughter Jane Hansen of Mason City, IA; son Jon and his wife Janet Hansen of Sleepy Eye, MN; son-in-law Wayne Koenig of Mankato, MN; step-daughter Shirley Janzen ofMountain Lake, MN; five grandchildren, Jon G. Hansen II, Jackie and her husband Rob Funke, Jennifer and her husband Chad Sadler, Libby Koenig, and Jeff Koenig; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Sadler; three step-grandchildren Donna Lindstrom,Paul Janzen, Jean and her husband Jerry Haberman; one sister-in-law, Ann Hansen of Mountain Lake, MN; one brother-in-law Norman Small of Mountain Lake, MN; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edna;daughter, Kathy Koenig; four brothers, Alfred, Harry, Roy and Elmer; three sisters, Emma Seavert, Clara Hansen, Alice Hansen, and Lillian Small.
