Gene Leopold

Gene Loren Leopold was born March 1, 1952 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, MN to Loren and Lorain (Schmidt) Leopold. He was baptized on March 30, 1952 and confirmed on April 3, 1966 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. Gene attended grade school at the Zion Lutheran School in Sanborn and attended and graduated from Sanborn High School in 1970. He graduated from Southwest College in Marshall, MN in 1975. After teaching for five years at the Meridan-Cleghorn school in Iowa he taught at the Springfield Public Schools for 29 years. Gene also farmed the family farm for 29 years. He married Sharon Reurink on August 9, 1980 and they had two sons - Matthew and Patrick. He enjoyed farming, teaching, his dogs and visiting with family and friends Gene Leopold, 57 died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his farm in rural Sanborn. Gene is survived by his wife Sharon of Sanborn; two sons - Matthew (Jen) of Brookings, SD and Patrick (Kara) of Shoreview, MN; two brothers - Gary (Kathleen) of Warrenton, VA and Kevin (Marilyn) of Sleepy Eye; sisters and brothers-in-law - Emily (Mike) Siemonsma, Gloria (Dennis) Whitehorn, Tim (Lori) Reurink and Paul (Leanne) Reurink and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
