Gary Curtis Schafer was born January 12, 1945 in Redwood Falls, MN to Eli and Pearl (Fischer) Schafer. He attended Danube Public School, then served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Gary drove truck in Germany and was honorably discharged on September 29, 1967. He was united in marriage to Jean Schneider on June 30, 1973 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Missoula, MT. The couple made their home in Missoula where Gary drove truck and then moved to Rosemount, MN where he hauled lumber. Gary and Jean moved to Lamberton in 1978 to farm. Gary owned and drove semi for many years traveling to different states and enjoyed seeing the country. He was a member of the Rodeo Cowboys Association where he rode bucking horses and enjoyed the western way of life. He is survived by wife Jean; children- Steve (Kim) Schafer, Dave (Priscilla) Schafer, Randy (friend Arye) Schafer, Tim (Sheila) Schafer, and Kim (Joseph) Tranby; grandchildren- Aimee (Randy) Best, Alison (Marc) Erickson, Nicole (Ben) Gossman, Brittanie Schafer, Kayla Schafer, Tyler Jay Schafer, Travis Tranby, and Taylor Tranby; great-grandchildren- Lilyana, Annalyse, Matthew and Grace; and sister Kathy (Ed) Oplinger.
