Frieda Toews, 100, Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Mountain Lake, MN died Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Twin Towers nursing home in Cincinnati. Frieda Elizabeth Quiring was born March 8, l911 on a farm four miles north of Mountain Lake, MN to Abraham P. Elizabeth (Goossen) Quiring. Frieda's mother died Feb. 8, l920 due to influenza when Frieda was nine years old and her brother Sam was six. Her father married Katherine Goertzen and two more children, Adeline and Geneva, were added to the family. Frieda received her education at the country school near their farm. In l930 she was baptized by Rev. I. J. Dick and became a life long member of First Mennonite Church, Mt. Lake, MN . She sang in the Girls Chorus and also was one of the original sixteen members of First Mennonite Mission Society which was organized Oct. 4, l931 and met in the homes of the members. In l926 her parents purchased a farm southwest of Mountain Lake. There she took care of her two younger sisters and helped with the housework, garden and farm chores. In l937 Frieda and her brother Sam purchased the home farm north of town on which they had been born and started farming on their own. On June 14, l948 Frieda and David H. Toews were married at First Mennonite Church. They farmed the Toews home place north of Butterfield. One daughter, Rowena Deneen was born to them in l949. After retiring from farming, Frieda Dave purchased a home in Mountain Lake. Dave died Feb. 14, l971. Frieda continued living in her home until l985. She then moved to Cincinnati OH where she lived with her daughter Rowena Garywayne Dennison and their three daughters for the next 25 years. She was well taken care of. On January 1st of this year, her only daughter, Rowena Dennison died of a brain tumor. This was very hard on Frieda. While Ro was undergoing treatment, Frieda moved to a nursing home near their home in Cincinnati. Garywayne and the girls visited and cared for her every day. She was truly loved. She reached the milestone of her 100th birthday this last March and was looking forward to going home and meeting her Lord and Saviour. Her prayer was answered on July 15 at 1 A.M. She is survived by son in law, Garywayne Dennison, three step grandchildren, Sandra, Sarah and Christina and two step great grandsons, Cooper and Chance. Also by sisters, Adeline Friesen, of Freeman SD and Geneva (Waldo) Stoesz, of Mt. Lake, sister in law Elva Quiring, of Goessel KS and many nieces and nephews. BLESSED BE HER MEMORY!
