Frieda Ewert, age 97 of Mountain Lake, MN died Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Windom Area Hospital. Frieda Rempel was born on December 1, 1913 in Fairbury, NE to Jacob and Eva (Sawatzky) Rempel. She attended school in Fairbury, NE. She was baptized in the Summer of 1928 at Jansen, NE. Frieda and her sister Alma moved to Minnesota in the late 1930's to help their brother Frank on his farm. On September 5, 1940 Frieda was united in marriage to Peter P. Ewert in Nebraska. The couple lived on a farm North of Bingham Lake, MN. In 1981, Peter passed away. After staying on the farm a short while, Frieda purchased a home in Mountain Lake. Around 2004, Frieda moved to Parkwood Place and was there until she moved to Good Samaritan Village in the spring of 2007. Frieda loved to garden, belonging to the Three Lakes Garden Club, and especially enjoyed raising African Violets. She loved to cook, quilt, and volunteer at the Good Samaritan Village. She belonged to the Carson Mennonite Brethren Church and its ladies singing group. In 2006, she became a member of the Community Bible Church, Mountain Lake. She is survived by 4 children: Bill Ewert, of Blaine, MN, Gary (Janel) Ewert, of Worthington, MN, Avis (Steve) Gasch, of Litchfield, MN and Marcia (Robert) Sammons, of New Prague, MN; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Other survivors include 3 sisters: Helen Toews, of Hillsboro, KS, Viola (Ralph) Harper, of Roca, NE and Marcella (John) Skinner, of Casper, WY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, her parents, 5 brothers: Henry, Harry, Al, Frank and Abe along with sisters Alma Wiens and Margaret Harder.
