Frederick Joseph Welsch was born January 24, 1921 near Wabasso, MN, the son of Anton and Bertha (Suess) Welsch. He attended school at St. Raphael's Catholic School in Springfield. He enlisted in the US Army on Oct. 2, 1942 and served until February 28, 1946. On April 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Caroline Ebnet at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wabasso. The couple moved to Springfield and Frederick worked at Ochs Brick for 14 years. Frederick retired in 1985 after working at the Springfield Public School for 27 years as a custodian. He was a member of the St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield and the Springfield American Legion. He enjoyed Old Time music, fishing, yard work, collecting, gardening, and wood crafts. Frederick died on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Home at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife - Caroline Welsch of Springfield; children - Carol and husband Ray Mezera of Belle Plain and Fred Jr. and wife Paula Welsch of Rapid City, SD; and brothers - Donald Welsch and special friend - JoEleen Simoning of Redwood Falls and Russell and wife Helen Welsch of Clements and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters - Deloris Dietl and Lorraine Elsing; and brothers - Clarence, James, and Anthony.
