Frank Schneider

Frank J. Schneider was born to Joseph Jacob and Katherine (Rummel) Schneider on January 23, 1916 in Springfield, MN. He was baptized on February 13, 1916 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. His First Communion was in 1926 and Solemn Communion in 1928. He was confirmed on May 28, 1929. He was a life-long member of St. Raphael's Church. He died on June 6, 2014 in Springfield. He was a student at St. Raphael's Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Springfield Public High School in 1934. On September 15, 1937, he married Ruth Ada Kaale of Lamberton. Frank served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935 and in the Merchant Marines in 1945 during WWII. As a teenager Frank worked at Marron Brothers' Grocery Store and also for Clem Schmidt Construction Company, both in Springfield. Frank worked at Och's Brick and Tile Company in the late 1930's and also in the Springfield Feed Flour Mill for a time. He worked at the Springfield Dairy from 1945 until 1963 as milkman. In 1963 he began working at Tauer's Supervalu Grocery Store until retiring in 2006 (age 90). He played center field in the Springfield Men's Softball team, played trombone in the Springfield City Band at Brown's Park and donated blood to the Red Cross for many years. He also volunteered as censor at the Springfield Christmas Nativity Pageant from 1997-2003. Frank was an avid bowler and loved going fishing. He especially enjoyed the time he spent after retirement fishing on Lake Miltona. Frank is survived by his wife Ruth, three daughters, Marjorie (Alfred) Eichten of Mankato, Judith (Neil) Gehrt of Cottage Grove and Karen (Terry) Fredin of Windom. He is also survived by grandchildren Terry (Cathy) Eichten of Mantorville, Scott (Tracey) Eichten of St. Louis Park, Vicki (Randy) Harder of St. Peter, Jon Eichten of Ramsey, Julie Kittleson (Gregg Gramse) of Scandia, Sheila (Kevin) Dubs of Marshall, Kathy Mollers of Lakeville, Kristen (Gary) Vipond of Sibley, IA and Bill (Dawn) Fredin of Windom. Also surviving are greatgrandchildren Daniel (Amber) Eichten, Amy (Matt) Badzinski, Jeremy Eichten, Erin Eichten, Brittany Eichten, Katie McMurlyn, Benjamin :i;:ichten, Nathan Eichten, Bronson Kittleson, McKayla Kittleson, Abby Dubs, Brady Dubs, James Anderson, Devin Mollers, Ashley Mollers, Jennifer Vipond, Stephanie Vipond, Christian Schuck, Madyson Fredin, one great-greatgrandchild Abel Anderson plus nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Katherine Schneider, brothers Wenzel, Anthony Joseph Schneider and sisters Catherine, Irene and Mary Schneider and sister brother-in-law Margaret (Schneider) and Wesley Grundmeyer. Also preceding him in death was grandson Michael Gehrt. He also was preceded in death by his father-in-law mother-in-law, Ole and Anna Kaale, brother-in-law and sister-in-law John Ross Melba Kaale and sisters-in-law brothers-in-law Dorothy and Ben Peterson and Gladys and Darold Krinke.
