Frances Marion was born on September 24, 1915 in rural St. James, MN to James Franklin and Edna (Hegstrom) Forsyth. She grew up on the family farm in rural St. James, attended country school and graduated from St. James High School in 1933. After high school graduation she attended Mankato Teachers College 1933-1935 where she received her teaching certificate. She taught for eight years in rural schools in Watonwan County and later in Storden Consolidated School, Storden, Minnesota. On July 16, 1944 Frances married Clayton Ostberg. After Clayton's death, she went back as a substitute teacher in the St. James School district until 1982. Frances was a lifelong member of East Sveadahl where she taught Sunday School, attended bible study and was president of the Ladies group. She also served as president of the hospital auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering, quilting and helping children with their homework even after retiring. Frances Ostberg passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Laurel's Peak in Mankato. She is survived by her children; Charles Ostberg (Chris Sames) of Nisswa, Lloyd Ostberg of St. James, Carol (Frank) Leonard of Bellaire, MI, Donald Ostberg of Amboy, Joyce (Gerald) Roust of North Mankato, and Elaine (Michael) Brady of Springfield, Ohio, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a brother Donald Forsyth of St. James. She is preceded in death by her husband Clayton in 1969, parents, brothers Leslie and Milton and a sister Florence Torkelson. Memorials may be directed to East Sveadahl Lutheran Church or the Greater Mankato Hospice Program.
