Floyd J. Forstner age 92, of Madelia, MN died on July 31, 2023, at Woodstone Senior Living in New Ulm, MN.
Visitation will be on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel.
Funeral will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia, on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10:30 am with visitation at the funeral home one hour prior.
The clergy will be Fr. Timothy Hall. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Madelia.
Military rites will be provided by the Madelia Area Veterans Honor Guard.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia, MN. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Floyd Jerome Forstner was born on November 12,1930 to Henry & Celia (Tauer) Forstner in Madelia, MN. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1948 and served in the US Air Force and was stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base near Manchester, England. While there he met the love of his life, Maureen Cook, and they were married on September 18, 1954. Upon returning to his hometown, he joined his father and uncle building fire trucks at Forstner Fire Apparatus and he later took over the business. Floyd served in various roles in the community including the fire department, eventually becoming Fire Chief, the light plant board, and cemetery board. He was an active member of the VFW, American Legion, Rotary Club and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed deer hunting, something he passed along to many of his children and grandchildren, spending time with his family at the cabin on Kimball Lake, and fishing trips with family and friends to Canada and Alaska.
Floyd is survived by sons, Gary (Denise) Forstner and Vincent (Kris) Forstner of Madelia, Roger (Jennifer) Forstner of Honolulu, Jeffrey (Maureen) Forstner of Sauk Rapids; daughter, Diane (Alan) Mendel of Cushing; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Roger, Katy and Betty; wife, Maureen; infant daughter, Mary; son, Kenneth, and grandchildren, Joshua, Bryon and Nicole.
The family would like to thank Woodstone Senior Living of New Ulm for their excellent care of Floyd during the last 5 years.
