Florence Alice Elizabeth Sandgren

Florence Alice Elizabeth Sandgren Florence Sandgren, age 89, of Sleepy Eye MN, formerly of Chokio MN, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Florence Alice Elizabeth Steinhaus was born May 13, 1926 in Bandon Township, Renville County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Lila (Streich) and Ferdinand Steinhaus. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Morgan MN and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax MN. Florence was united in marriage to Andrew Sandgren on June 16, 1944 at Swedlanda Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Hector area until 1951. They moved to Chokio and farmed until retirement in 1979 when they built a house and moved into town. They enjoyed having friends over for coffee and playing cards. When Andrew passed away, Florence sold her house and moved to Sleepy Eye to be near her sister Beverly. They had a daily morning coffee time together at 9:30 a.m. for over fifteen years. Florence enjoyed tending her flowers and feeding the birds. She loved going to garage sales and thrift shops. She was a collector of "unique" things. Florence is survived by her children: Barbara (Lee) Forrester of Aitkin MN, and Larry (Judy) Sandgren of Edina MN; grandchildren: Todd (Kelly) Forrester of Shakopee MN, Matthew (Melissa) Sandgren of St. Paul MN, Wendy Forrester (fianc Terry Bryant) of St. Croix Beach MN, and Laura (Joe) Glass of Richfield MN; great grandchildren: Amber and Autumn Forrester, Chloe and Zach Sandgren, Joshua, Ethan and Justin Glass; sister: Beverly (Earl) Altmann of Sleepy Eye MN and Robert Steinhaus (friend Arlene) of Rochester MN; and many nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, daughter-in-law, Muriel Sandgren, parents, sister, Lois and brothers Dellas, Delmar and Gordon.
