Florence Platz

Florence Jennie Platz was born on April 13, 1916 in Burnstown Township, the daughter of Albert and Olga (Peterson) Anderson. She attended grade school in Springfield. She attended and graduated from high school in Pillsbury, ND where she excelled in Basketball. On January 16, 1940 she was united in marriage to Norbert A. Platz at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. Florence and Norbert farmed in Burnstown Township until retirement in 1989. Florence continued to live on the farm place until 1996 when she moved in to Riverview Homestead and then in 1998 she became a resident at St. John Lutheran Home. She was a member of St. Raphael's Church, CCW, Garden Club and Garden and Hobby Club which she organized in 1972. Florence enjoyed crochet, gardening, flowers, cooking, collecting dolls, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, traveling and trips - even abroad, and she loved to visit with friends and family. Florence died on Friday, October 6, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her children - Maxine Walter of Springfield, Dolores and husband Pat Nelson of Clements, and Colleen Coke and husband Gary Richert of Springfield; 12 grandchildren - Kelly and husband Steve Peterson, Todd Walter, Tyson Walter, Kasi Walter, Shelly and husband Bill Tauer, Brian Groebner, Trisha and husband Shawn Rummel, Brent Groebner, Tori Nelson, Travis and wife Laura, Tonia Richert and Treff Richert; 18 great grandchildren; a brother - Albert Anderson of Springfield and Alvera Hirschey of Edina; and sisters-in-law - Florence Anderson and Mae Anderson both of Springfield. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband - Norbert in 1995; siblings - Carrie Anderson, Sidney Anderson, Mabel Ryan, Goldie Anderson, Ted Anderson, Elmer Anderson, Herbert Anderson, Clarence Anderson, Alice Anderson, and a brother in infancy; and a son-in-law - Gene Groebner.
