Florence Nelson

February 18, 1906 — July 28, 2005

Florence Louise Grant, the daughter of August and Frieda (Larson) Grant, was born on February 18, 1906, at Lewisville, MN. She received her education in Lewisville, and then worked at the Winnebago Cafe. Although she never gave birth to any children, Florence was a mother to many. Florence was united in marriage to Phil Helferich and helped him raise his three children. When Phil's brother and sister-in-law were killed in an accident they also adopted their three children, and when Florence's sisterdied they cared for her two children. Following Phil's death, Florence married Isaac Voth, and they made their home in Butterfield, MN. After Isaac's death, Florence worked for the Jack Koenig family and helped care for his young children. Florence then married Nordy Nelson and became a part of his family, helping raise Nordy Butch Nelson Jr. They made their home and farmed by Buffalo Center, IA until Nordy's death. Florence then moved to live closer to her family and spent her last years in MountainLake, MN. She was a hard worker and took pride in being a mother and farmer's wife. She enjoyed playing cards, watching the Twins, visiting with others and spent many hours reading her newspapers.Florence died on Thursday, July 28, 2005, at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom, MN at the age of 99 years. Florence is survived by her adopted daughter, Roxann and her husband Gloyd Wellman of Darfur, MN; Roxann and Gloyd's children and grandchildren; numerous stepchildren and their families; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Milton and Edward Grant; two sisters, Helen Grant and Agnes King; and two other siblings in infancy; a grandson, Gregory Wellman; and several stepchildren.
