Ferne Warner

Ferne Hardis Warner was born on April 20, 1920 to Ben and Nettie (Peterson) Backstrom in Marathon, Iowa. Ferne grew up on a farm in Iowa. She received her education through the 12th grade at the public school in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church in Marathon, Iowa. After high school graduation she worked for a local veterinarian''s family with household duties. At age 19 she moved to Storden, Minnesota to help her mother with household duties of her grandparent''s farmstead. After being engaged to Howard Warner, she moved to California during the years that Howard served in the military. While living in California, Ferne worked at the Harvey Machine Company as a secretary. Ferne and Howard were married Sept. 30, 1945 in Long Beach, California. They lived in Long Beach until 1949 and then moved to a farm by Revere. Ferne served as 4-H Leader, Old Westbrook Sunday School and Bible School teacher, member of Old Westbrook W.E.L.C.A. and Dorcas Circle, Old Westbrook Sunday School and Bible School Teacher, Ann Township Extension Group, Country Brushes Painting Group, and Garden Club. She loved to oil paint and tend to her flower gardens. Ferne was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her parents Ben and Nettie Backstrom and siblings Alvin Backstrom and Lillian Kas and son-in-law Rod McCormick. She is survived by her children: Janine McCormick of Apple Valley, MN, Jay (Diane) Warner of Revere, MN, Gary (Jayme) Warner of Revere, MN. Grandchildren: Todd (Terri) Hoffrogge, Kari Schieffert, Matt (Colleen) Warner, Ryan (Candace) Warner, Libbey Warner. Great-grandchildren: Nicole Hoffrogge, Josie Schieffert, Emma Schieffert, Grace Warner, Sophia Warner, Lucy Warner, Lucas Warner, Anna Warner and Howard Warner.
