Fern Vervinnia Elizabeth Haseman was born on November 17, 1917, the daughter of Fred and Ida (Stark) Koenig in Adrian Township, Watonwan County. She attended District School in Darfur; following her schooling she worked at home with her family. She was united in marriage to Roland Haseman at the Koenig family farm on May 9, 1937 and the couple lived on the Haseman home farm. Fern was active in church activities including Ladies League and teaching Sunday School. She was a dedicated volunteer of the Butterfield Threshing Bee in Engine House #1 and a member of the Handy Helpers Club. She participated as a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Mobile and served as an Election Judge. Following Roland's death in 1987; Fern married David Dick on October 5, 1996 in Sleepy Eye. Fern enjoyed raising and arranging flowers, wintering in Arizona, traveling, but most of all, spending time with family, friends and neighbor. Fern died at the age of 92 years on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Haseman family farm north of Butterfield where she resided for 73 years. She is survived by her husband - David Dick of Butterfield; children - Patricia (Bob) Dittrich of New Ulm, MN, Barry (Nylene) Haseman of Albert Lee, MN, and Dean (Kristin) Haseman of Butterfield; a step daughter - Norma (Ron) Solberg of Downers Grove, IL; 13 grandchildren and step grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; a sister and best friend - Ilah Wolle of Darfur, 3 brother and sisters-in-law; and the many people to which she served coffee and Grandma Bars. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Roland in 1987; brothers - Roy, Laurnie, Reuben, Ryland, Hollis, and Ellsworth; sisters - Fridoline and Luella and 12 brothers and sisters-in-law. Memorial are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church in Darfur or the Donor's choice
