Father Leonard Jenniges

March 1, 1923 — July 28, 2014

Father Leonard John Jenniges was born on March 1, 1923, in Waterbury Township, Redwood County, the son of John J. and Caroline (Aufterheide) Jenniges. He attended grade school in Wanda and 3 years at Lamberton High School. He went on to Nazareth Hall Seminary and St. Paul Seminary and was ordained on June 5, 1948, at St. Paul Cathedral. He was assigned to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Father Leonard returned to Nazareth Hall as a teacher for 18 years where he taught German, Greek, and Latin among other duties. He was assigned to St. John the Baptist Church in Savage, MN for 17 years, St. Mary's Catholic Church in LeCenter, MN for 9 years and returned to Wanda in 1993. As a young man, Leonard played baseball for the Wanda team, has been a member of the Knights of Columbus in 1943, and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening, reading, and watching sports - especially high school and college. He died on Monday, July 28, 2014, at the age of 91 years at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, MN. Father Leonard is survived by his sisters - Bertha Altermatt of Wanda, Elaine Rohlik of Wanda, and Jean Deutsch of Ellsworth, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers - Vincent, Clair, Austin, Valentine, Wilfred, and baby John in infancy; and a sister - Gertrude Jenniges.
