Fabian Maher

Tom Maher, age 59, of Sleepy Eye, MN, (In Tom's words He bought the farm) Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by family. Fabian Tom Thomas Maher was born on August 27, 1953 in Tracy, MN, the son of Fabian Clair Tilda (Haugen) Maher. He grew up in Currie and graduated from Tracy High School in 1971. Tom served in the United States Army from 8/30/1972 until 8/22/1975. He moved to Jackson, MN where he attended Technical School from 1975 to 1977 and graduated with a degree in Land Construction Management. He moved to Sleepy Eye in 1977 where he worked as Program Manager at Brown Soil Water Conservation District for 36 years. He married Helen A. Petersen on August 14, 1976 in Tracy, MN. Tom served 15 years in the National Guard. He was a member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, Pheasants Forever and Last Man Club of Vietnam War Era of St. Peter. He loved spending time on the family farm, hunting, camping and anything outdoors. Tom also loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, shooting guns and driving his Ford trucks. Tom has been chosen as Brown Soil Water Conservation Districts, 2013 Outstanding Conservationist for 36 years of dedicated service, conservation efforts, and accomplishments in Brown County. Tom is survived by his children; Jason (Sandy) Maher of St. James, Ryan (Ashley) Maher of Sleepy Eye, Nicole Maher special friend Riley Braulick, 3 grandchildren, Camryn Aubree Maher and Braylen Braulick, siblings; Pat Widboom of Burnsville, Mary Maher of Marshall, Mike (Karen) Maher of Marshall and Bill Maher (Lucille Deslauriers) of Currie. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen in 2011, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
