Ewald Ludwig Schuelke, age 92, of Comfrey, MN passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 at his home. Ewald was born on January 21, 1921 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Elsa Wilhelm and Herman Schuelke. Ewald served in the Army Air Force during World War II spending 10 months in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations with the 7th Air Force. In 1949, Ewald married his best friend, Dorothy Prechel of Springfield, MN at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN. Ewald and Dorothy were blessed with 4 children. He grew up on a farm southwest of Comfrey, eventually purchasing the farm from his dad. Ewald and his family farmed this farm until the age of 90. He was a Pioneer Seed dealer for 18 years. He was a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church where he served as chairman, and on the Salem New Hope Cemetery Board. Ewald enjoyed reading, watching TV News, playing his harmonica with Dorothy accompanying him on the piano, visiting with neighbors, taking little trips to visit family and friends, trips out West, and having special tenting campouts with the grandchildren. Ewald loved having his children and grandchildren around where he enjoyed talking about the good ol' times, his Air Force days, politics and religion or just playing games, especially checkers. Ewald is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Prechel), children: Sheldon (Marlene)Schuelke, Comfrey, LuAnn Augustin, St. James, Preston Schuelke, Owatonna, and Colleen (Richard) Havens, Lake Crystal; grandchildren: Justin Augustin, Joshua Augustin, Heather (Marco) Duarte, Tracy Schuelke, Lindsey Bade (special friend Kent Scheff), Mackenzie Bade, and Mickaylie Bade; great-grandchildren: Eric and Carmen Duarte; step-grandchildren: Adam Kopesky, Christina (Ross) Fischer, Amy Hanson, Shelly (Corey) Freyberg, Ben (Sarah) Havens and step-great-grandchildren: Tyler Kopesky, Dylan Kopesky, Jerimiah Eustice, Kylie and Cooper Fischer, Gillian and Wesley Hanson, Danielle, Charlie and Levi Freyberg, Cody Havens; many nieces and nephews; special friend Dale Augustin; special little friend, Jasmine Gordon. One sister, Myra Colburn of Marshall, MN,; brothers Lester of Richland Center, WI and Arthur (Carla) of Kewaskum, WI; brother-in-law, Arnold Mohn of Alta, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Lena (Wetzel) Schuelke; brothers, Enno and Albert; sister, Lamerne Weiland Mohn; brothers-in-law, Henry Weiland, Henry Colburn, and Roland Prechel; sister-in-law, Yvonne Schuelke.
