On November 29, 2020, Everett Marion Christensen, Jr. entered the presence of his Lord and Savior and heard the words he had been longing to hear, "Well done, O good and faithful servant. You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, and have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits you, the crown of righteousness." The final beat of his heart was at home with Sybil, his beloved wife of 58 years by his side. Born and raised in New Ulm, Everett gained notoriety as the City's first 1000-point scorer in basketball. A lifelong businessman, he left his mark at Jostens, Honeywell, Farmers and Mechanics Bank and First Federal of Broward before making Madelia his home and evolving the Madelia Telephone Company into Christensen Communications, bringing cable TV and the Internet to Madelia. Always up for a challenge, Everett knew a closed theater marquee on Main Street would be a detriment to the community. Although he knew nothing about the movie theater business when he started, he purchased the business and got it back up and running after being closed for 5 years. He has been successful in keeping the theater viable for over 29 years. A staunch advocate for Madelia businesses, he helped found the Madelia Area Redevelopment Corporation and played a major role in continuing the legacy of the Madelia-Times Messenger when it was purchased by a big conglomerate and was at risk of being moved out of town. Scouting was always an important part of Everett's life. Not only did he receive the rank of Eagle, but he ensured that both of his sons did as well. He worked to revitalize Madelia's Troop 23, serving as Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chair and even on the Twin Valley Council. He was awarded Scouting's Silver Beaver Award and was recognized by the Council for his many years of service. Everett shared his education and experience in industrial psychology both as an author and educator. He authored several books on personal and professional relationships; such as Dynamic Supervision; 73 Magic Management Words +2, and 60 - 40 or Fight, How to Get Along With Someone Other Than Yourself. He also wrote a fictional book about the Air Force entitled It All Counts Towards 20 based on his own experience as a Veteran. As an Educator, he taught in the Graduate program at St. Thomas University in St. Paul and conducted countless seminars for working professionals. In addition to his wife Sybil, left to carry on his legacy are his children, Brent (Anne) Christensen, Dawn (Mike) Schneider, Glen (Brenda) Christensen and Sue (fiance Mo Lackland) Christensen; grandchildren, Gayle (Troy) Chandler, Joseph (fiance Pamela Potthoff) Christensen, Gibraun (Takia) Christensen, Kirsten (fiance Devin Goor) Christensen, Kellen and Cory Schneider, Zoe Fields, Emma and Ethan Christensen and great grandchildren, Drew, Brayden and Colten Chandler, Gabby Goor, Cash Christensen and Kahlil Christensen.Waiting for him in heaven were his parents, Everett and Hildegard (Amann) Christensen, nephew Mark Schmidt and grandson Terry Goettsch along with many other family and friends.
