Evelyn Steve

There will be a Parish Prayer Service at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Evelyn Catherine Steve was born April 28, 1930, in Sanborn, MN, the daughter of William and Monica (Schmitz) Hensch. A lifetime resident of Sanborn, Evelyn graduated from Sanborn High School in 1948. She then graduated from the College of St. Theresa in 1952 and St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester. Evelyn was Director of Nursing at the Redwood Falls Hospital until her marriage to Don Steve on August 13, 1955. She worked alongside her husband at the gas station on Sanborn Corners and later their petroleum business. Evelyn started the Sanborn First Responders and was the unofficial Community Health Director. She was a lifetime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, a member of the CCW, American Legion Auxiliary, a board member for Sanborn Community Education, and served as Civil Defense Director for several years. Evelyn enjoyed fishing, cooking, playing cards, music, and watching sporting events. She also enjoyed her winters in Texas and her summers at Lake Winnie, and especially loved her family and grandkids. Evelyn Catherine Steve died Friday, January 9, 2009, at the Springfield Medical Center Hospital at the age of 78 years. She is survived by husband Don of Sanborn; sons- Tom (Brenda) of Sartell, and Jim (Dana) of St. Joseph; grandchildren- Todd and Nick of Sartell, and Derek and Alyssa of St. Joseph; sister- Donna Marie and husband Elmer Baune of Lamberton; and brother- Charles and wife Marilyn Hensch of Sanborn. She was preceded in death by her parents.
