Evelyn Schmidt

Evelyn Viola Schmidt was born on February 26, 1924 in Brookville Township, Redwood County, the daughter of Herman and Augusta (Reetz) Schultz. She attended grade school at Cobden and Springfield High School. Evelyn was united in marriage to Donald Schmidt on April 2, 1942 in Springfield, MN. Following their marriage the couple lived in Springfield and Evelyn worked at St. John Lutheran Home in housekeeping for 20 years. She was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield where she served as janitor for 4 years. Evelyn was also a member of LWML, Couples Club, and St. John's Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, cleaning, family gathering, traveling, being active in church and helping others. Evelyn died on Monday, August 9, 2010 at the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her children - Carol (Louie) Agre of Spring, TX, Charles Chuck (Marsha) Schmidt of Springfield, MN, David Schmidt and friend Mary of Springfield, MN, Clyde (Donna) Schmidt of Springfield, MN, Barbara (Jim) Ottaway of Meadow Vista, CA, Diane (Steve) VanHee of Watertown, SD, and Donald Schmidt, Jr. of Springfield, MN; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Donald in January of 2000; brothers - Elmer and Wilbert Schultz; and a sister - Cora (Elmer) Bloemke.
