Evelyn M. Kastner, age 86 of Sanborn died on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, Mn. There will be a Parish Prayer Service on Monday at 5:30 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, MN. Evelyn Magdalena Kastner was born July 16, 1923, to William and Mary Anna (Roiger) Wersal. She attended District 59 country school and attended two years at St. Raphael's Catholic School. Evelyn was united in marriage to Raymond Joseph Kastner on November 16, 1942. The couple purchased Ray's grandpa's farm and lived there until 1981 when they moved to the Simonson farm. Upon retirement in 1986, they moved into Sanborn. She entered Sleepy Eye Care Center in February of 2009, then moved to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield in April of 2009. Evelyn was an avid gardener raising vegetables and flowers, a skilled seamstress and quilter. She also worked with Esther Benedict preparing and serving catered meals. She enjoyed crocheting, other forms of art, and cooking and baking for her family. Evelyn was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and chaired several different offices over the years. Evelyn Magdalena Kastner died Friday, February 12, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Home at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her children - Kenneth and wife Laurice Kastner of Sanborn, Richard and wife Ruth Kastner of Elmore, MN, Carol and husband Gene Olsem of Dundee, MN, Mary and husband Ray Olsem of Dundee, MN, Douglas and wife Angela Kastner of St. Louis Park, MN, Thomas and Kim Kastner of Sanborn, Michael and Val Kastner of Jefferson, SD, Dean and Ann Kastner of Fredericksburg, VA; 29 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; brothers - Harold and wife Mary Wersal of Morgan, MN and Leonard Wersal of Owatonna, MN; sisters - Mary Ann and husband Leo Veit of New Ulm, MN, Lucille and husband Lloyd Johnson of Morgan, MN, and MaDonna and husband Albert Ebnet of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband - Raymond in 2009; daughters - Karen and Barbara; brother - William Jr. a sister Irene Groebner; sister-in-law - Dorothy Wersal; and brothers-in-law - Leroy Weisensel and Clement Hacker.
