Evelyn Jeannette Jenson was born in Springfield, MN on August 30, 1918, to Claus and Effie (Matter) Johnson. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1936. Evelyn received her teacher's training in Sleepy Eye and taught nine years in country schools around Springfield. She was proud of the swim teams she instructed and managed at the pool from 1936-1945. Evelyn married Elmer Jenson on September 29, 1941. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church and the CCW. Evelyn served as president and was a longtime active member of the Springfield American Legion Auxiliary. She was a charter member of the Springfield Historical Society. Evelyn enjoyed being a homemaker and being in the outdoors with her husband Elmer and their family. Elmer and Ev had many wonderful times together fishing and camping in Alexandria and wintering in Pharr, TX. Evelyn's hobbies included sewing, quilting, cribbage and tennis with her friends, even into her 80's. Evelyn died peacefully in her home on January 1, 2006, at the age of 87 years. Survivors include daughter- Barbara and husband Carl Bambenek of Winona, MN; son- Chuck and wife Sharon Jenson of Cypress, TX; grandchildren- Alan Bambenek, Denise and husband Joe Matejka, Andy and wife Alison Jenson, and Dan Jenson; great grandchildren- Dylan and Ashley Matejka; nieces and nephews; friends and special neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband- Elmer in 1993; sister- Violet Meyer; and brother- Harold Johnson. We, the family, appreciate the support and prayers of her neighbors and friends.
