Evelyn Hayes

Evelyn Elizabeth Middleton Hayes was born October 30, 1924 in Stately Township, Brown County, MN to Rudolph and Elsie (Karrow) Martius. She and her siblings were raised on a farm in SW MN. On December 17, 1941, Evelyn married Andrew Middleton in Sanborn, MN and raised their family while farming in Comfrey, Delft and Westbrook. Evelyn worked at Sanborn Corners and the Springfield Woolen Mill. In 1968 they moved to Faribault, MN where Evelyn and Andy worked at the State Hospital for 15 years. Not having the opportunity to finish High School, she got her GED and then got her Certification as a Sr. Psych Tech, where she wrote and implemented behavior programs for the residents there. This was one of her proudest accomplishments. In 1983, when Andy became ill, they moved to Zamora, CA where they shared property with their son Larry and his family. They attended Calvary Baptist Church Woodland where they made many good friends. Andy passed in 1985. Evelyn was married to John Hayes September 10, 1988 in Woodland, CA. He preceded her in death in 2000. Evelyn remained in the area until son Larry passed in 2006. She then went to live with son Jeff in Crestline, CA and Tahlequah, OK where she remained until she needed more professional care in 2011. She spent the final two years of her life at Sleepy Eye Care Center's Heritage Lane until her passing on November 15, 2013. Evelyn loved going for walks, gardening, crocheting, cards and games, Max the cat, The Price is Right, music, especially worship and Johnny Cash. She loved her family and most of all loved her Lord Jesus Christ, whom she sits with now. Evelyn is survived by her children, Dianne (Doug) Seavey and Jeff (Joannie) Middleton, sisters, Dorothy Duncan and MaryLou (Ronald) Miller, 9 grandchildren and spouses, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other dear family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Andrew Middleton, daughter, Carol Osland, son, Larry Middleton, husband, John Hayes and brother, Marvin (Lucille) Martius.
