Evelyn Durheim

Evelyn Gertrude Miller was born October 31, 1913, at Alpha, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Tenhoff) Miller. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church. She attended rural school at District 21 and high school in St. James where she graduated in 1930. During her high school years she received voice lessons from Helen Bentley and sang at many school functions, weddings, funerals and at church gatherings. She sang in the Methodist Church Choir for more than 55 years, she was also the director of many concerts, cantatas and services for 8 years. Evelyn also served as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendant of the Sunday School, served as an officer in the United Methodist Women and volunteered in the kitchen (doing caramel carrots) for the bazaar meal for 25 years. In 1987, she served as a senior partner on the advisory board at Citizen State Bank. She was also a member of the County West Nelson Extension Club. She worked for years at Ziebarth Oil and Scherr Tumico. On May 31, 1939, she married Russell Durheim. The couple lived in St. James for 18 years before purchasing a small farm in the Sveadahl area in 1957. Russell passed away on July 13, 1994, Evelyn continued to live in the country until November 1997, when she moved to St. James. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, especially music, visiting , traveling, and reading. Evelyn and Russell enjoyed camping in the Dakota's and Montana. She loved her cats. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers; Hubert and Cecil Miller, sister-in-law; Alberta Miller. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
