Evelyn Marie Brye, 72, of Saint James, died as the result of a motor vehicle accident on June 16, 2026.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any local animal shelter.
Evelyn was born on March 26, 1954, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to Jim and Betty Slaughter. She graduated from Fennimore, Wisconsin LPN program and later got her RN. She worked in various nursing homes from 1985 until she retired in 2019. Throughout her life, she was known for her kindness, generous heart and unselfish love.
Evelyn enjoyed sewing and quilting, and especially loved walking on the beach collecting seashells and spending time with family and friends.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Myron Brye; children, Darrin (Brenda) DuCharme, of Janesville, Wisconsin, Dawn Herfel of Columbus City, Iowa, and Dan (Jackie) DuCharme of Plain, Wisconsin; stepdaughter, Candice Gruss of Cummings, Iowa; grandchildren, Dustin, Savannah, Nicolas, Shayanna, Cassie, Lena, Dwight, Ryland and Kylee; siblings, Raymond Slaughter and Tammy Rose; and 5 great grandchildren with one on the way.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Betty and four siblings, Janet, Jessie, Marietta, and Brenda.
Her family will remember Evelyn for her sense of humor, love of frogs, her jokes and endless love.
The family wishes to thank friends for their care and support.
Evelyn's kindness, love, and memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
