Eunice Broughton, age 95, of St. James died on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Funeral services will be 11am, Friday, March 31, 2017 at Albion Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Springer officiating. Burial will follow at Albion Cemetery in rural St. James. Visitation will be Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home from 4-7pm and at the church one hour before services on Friday. Memorials preferred to: Albion Lutheran Church, Evolve Adoption and Family Services, American Cancer Society or the donor's choice. Eunice LaVonne Williams was born March 20, 1921, near Odin, MN, the daughter of L.H. "Herman" and Anna (Mandsager) Williams. She attended country school near Odin until the Williams family moved to rural Minnesota, MN. Eunice graduated from Minnesota High School in 1937. On September 7, 1940, she was united in marriage to Conrad Broughton at Taunton, MN. They farmed near Minnesota until moving to rural St. James in 1946. While living near Godahl, Eunice was a secretary at the Godahl Creamery. She was an original member of the Godahl Kitchen Band. The family moved to St. James in 1958, and Eunice began working at Nelson's Food Market. She later worked at Collier's Red Owl, and retired from Superfair in 1991. While a member of Albion Lutheran Church Eunice taught vacation bible school, was a member of the ladies aid and sang in the church choir. Eunice loved to crochet, embroider, play cards and solve crossword puzzles. Eunice and Conrad enjoyed camping and fishing, especially at Strawberry Lake near Detroit Lakes. Eunice was also an avid bowler and attended the National Women's Bowling Tournament for 37 consecutive years, traveling to many states to compete. In addition she enjoyed vacation travel, especially a trip to Alaska. Eunice died Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia, at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 12 days. Eunice is survived by daughters, Carmen (Ted) Trampe of North St. Paul, MN; and Barbara Mays (friend David Hart), of Maple Grove, MN; three grandchildren, Ali (Dan) Adsit of White Bear Township, MN; Nicholas Trampe of Las Vegas, NV; and Daniel (Laura) Mays of Minneapolis, MN; five great grandchildren, Kaitlin and Makenna Adsit and Asher, Annika and Trygg Mays; brother Arden (Arlene) Williams of St. James, MN; sisters Audrey Peterson of Eden Prairie, MN; Maxine Sayler of Lakewood, CO; sister-in-law Fay Williams and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Conrad; brothers Gene and Lyle Williams; brother-in-law Philip Peterson; sister-in-law Janice Williams; son-in-law Gary Mays; and nephews Lee Arden Williams and Bill Johnson.
