Eugene Jerome Belden

Eugene J. Belden, age 80, of Springfield, Minnesota died Friday, February 23, 2024, at Franklin Restorative Care Center in Franklin, Minnesota. A private memorial service will be held at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel. The clergy will be Chaplain Noel Wetter. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Eugene Jerome Belden, the son of Jerome and Zelda (Walter) Belden, was born on January 15, 1944. He lived his earlier years at Cobden, Minnesota, attended Cobden grade school, and later graduated from Sleepy Eye Public School in 1962. Following graduation, Eugene did construction work. On November 18, 1967, Eugene married Darlene Marie Dorow at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield. They were blessed with their son, Kelly and made their home north of Cobden. In 1980, Eugene moved with his family to St. James where he worked at Scheer Tumico and also Westin’s for 42 years. After retiring in 2008, Eugene and Darlene moved to Springfield.

Eugene enjoyed spending time outdoors. He and Darlene collected swill carts from farm sales and had various flower carts which they enjoyed. He also loved going to auctions. As his health changed, Eugene was at home until February 9th of this year when he went to Franklin Restorative Care Center.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Darlene Belden of Springfield; son, Kelly Belden (girlfriend Lori) of St. James; and sister, Judy Liesenfeld of New Ulm.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
