Eugene Arndt

December 3, 1930 — April 15, 2014

Eugene 'Gene' Arthur Arndt was born December 3, 1930 on the family farm in Burnstown Township, Brown County to Arthur and Clara (Pirmantgen) Arndt. He was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. Gene graduated from Springfield High School in 1948 and was united in marriage to Donna Moritz on August 16, 1953 in Redwood Falls. He served with the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 where he was a member of the SIgnal Corp Fixed Station Radio at Fort Monmouth, NJ and Fifth Army Headquarters in Atlanta, GA. After his honorable discharge, Gene returned to Springfield to farm and also sold Pioneer seed corn for over 30 years. He served as the Burnstown Township treasurer for 35 years and was appointed to the ASC Committee for Burnstown Township in 1970. Gene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield where he served on the church council and as an usher, served on the board of directors at St. John Lutheran Home, and was a member of John Watson American Legion Post #257. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, traveling, gardening, canning, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards, reading, Sudoku, socializing with his many friends, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by wife Donna; daughters- Michelle (Charlie) Franklin of New Ulm, Tami (Joe) Bockhold of Rochester, Brenda (Tom) Reiner of Ham Lake, and Lisa (Greg) Walsh of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren- Kelli (Jake) Gerads, Andrew Bockhold, Katie (Cory) Jakubek, Kyle Hillesheim, Brittany Franklin and fiance' Adam Boyum, and Meghan, Patrick and Colin Walsh; and great-grandson Landon Jakubek. He was preceded in death by mother Clara Arndt; second mother Hattie Arndt; father Art Arndt; sister Harriet and husband Vince Mielke; brother Jerome and wife Florence Arndt; and brother-in-law Ken Menk.
