Esther Dick was born on 8/25/1915 in Cottonwood County, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Schultz) Quiring. She was baptized on 5/24/1931 by Rev. D.P. Eitzen in the Bergfelder Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake. She graduated from Mt. Lake Bible School in the spring of 1932 and Mt. Lake High School in 1937. It was during her high school days that the Lord called her into His service. Esther graduated from Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training School in Minneapolis on 5/31/1940. She received her diploma for Graduate of Theology and also Evangelical Teachers Training from Northwestern Evangelical Seminary on 5/28/1941. Esther was united in marriage to Elmer J. Dick on 10/1/1941 in the Bergfelder Mennonite Church by Rev. H.H. Quiring. She transferred her membership to Salem Mennonite Church in Munich, ND on 6/25/1944 where the couple was ordained as missionaries. Esther and Elmer served churches in Lustre, MT, Doland and Huron, SD, Delft and Butterfield, MN before leaving in January of 1946 to serve as missionaries in Congo, Africa. The couple served as missionaries from March of 1946 until their retirement in June of 1980. Esther taught Child Evangelism in America and the Congo; was the Director of the Women's Department at the Bible Institute, training pastors' wives in Kalonda, Congo; taught women's seminars teaching the Bible, Christian living and family welfare. Esther accompanied Elmer on village Evangelistic trips, teaching children and women. Following their retirement, the couple moved to Mt Lake; transferring membership to Lakeview Gospel Church in October of 1991. Esther enjoyed visiting in the nursing home and homes of friends and fellow church members. She is survived by her children - LaVerna (Darrell) Stonina of Columbia Heights, MN, Doretta (Thomas) Drey of Council Bluffs, IA, Delbert (Susan) Dick of Midland, TX, and John (Carol) Dereck of Ramsey, MN; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Elmer; brothers - Henry, Samuel, and Cornelious Quiring; sisters - Sarah Penner, Anna Quiring, Helen Sawatzky, Tina Quiring, Elizabeth Clevenger, and Marie Ruth Janzen.
