E. Carl Woolsey, Jr.
March 11, 1945-January 4, 2023, age 77 years 10 months.
Carl was born March 11, 1945, to Estel and Ruby (Rhodes) Woolsey in Danville, Illinois. He lived his childhood in Allerton, graduating in 1963 from ABL High School in Broadlands, where he played football and threw shotput and discus in track. In high school he met and later married Mary Keefe. Carl attended Illinois Business College in Champaign for accounting and began a lifelong career in food service manufacturing accountancy, with more than 20 years of service at Downs Food Group just before his retirement.
Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, genealogy, games of all kinds, home-repair projects and other handyman tasks, reading, and attending grandchildren’s sporting events. Carl was a long-time supporter of Madelia High School football and spent many years on the sidelines during games keeping the stat book. Carl was an avid traveler, who visited Germany, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, and many states throughout North America.
Carl is survived by his wife, Mary Josephine Woolsey; son, Henry Woolsey (Amanda) of Illinois; daughters, Elizabeth Hosea (Marshall) of Texas, Margaret Hood (Mark) of Michigan, and Rebecca Ulmen (Tom) of Minnesota; 15 grandchildren-Donna, Christian, Abby, Synnora, Dylan, Marshall Jr., Brienne, Jayden, Robert, Elyse, Mara, Meara, Piper, Jacob, and Emily; and 4 great grandchildren-Lukas, Veronica, John Henry, and Kinnick.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cassie, and numerous aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or American Lung Association in Carl’s memory.
