Erwin Linscheid

November 27, 1900 — May 20, 2006

Erwin John Linscheid, the son of Rudolph and Eugenia (Rupp) Linscheid, was born November 27, 1900 on their farm northwest of Butterfield, MN. He received his education in a country school and the Mountain Lake German Bible School where he met Anna H. Neufeld. He accepted Jesus as his Savior and was baptized upon confession of his faith in 1917, became a charter member of the Mennonite Church of Butterfield, MN in 1922. He served faithfully through the years in various capacities as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, church treasurer, and board member. He loved singing hymns and enjoyed singing in the choir with his beautiful tenor voice. Erwin was united in marriage to Anna H. Neufeld, September 18, 1924, at her parents' farm southeast of Mountain Lake, MN. Erwin and Anna farmed together for fifty four years northwest of Butterfield, MN. They moved to Mountain Lake in 1978. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on September 18, 1993. After Anna's death in 1994, he moved to the Parkwood Place Apartments in 1996 and enjoyed fellowship of the other residents daily. In March 2003 he entered the Good Samaritan Village in St. James, MN and transferred to the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake in January of 2004. Erwin loved to read and memorize the Word of God and led our family in daily devotions before breakfast. He was a kind and loving husband and father and enjoyed fishing, playing games, and putting puzzles together on long winter nights. In 1997 Erwin composed a poem, What a Prospect in which he shared with many, always with the hope that each one would consider the importance of preparing for his future in Heaven. Mr. Lincheid is survived by three daughters - Mildred Ellis and her husband Robert of Apple Valley, MN, Vera Holm of Spring Valley, CA, and Vernelle Stoesz and her husband John of Becker, MN; three sons - Luana Linscheid and his wife JoAnna of Cedar Rapids, IA, Clayton Linscheid and his wife Cheryl of Sterling, IL, and Eldon Linscheid and his wife JoAnn of Erhard, MN; 17 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren and another in June; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna, a grandson - Bobby Jon Henry Linscheid; 5 brothers - Albert, Arnold, Edward, William, and Gust; 3 sisters - Ellenora Linscheid, Louise Thompson, and Laura Friesen, and a son-in-law - Alden Holm.
