Ernest Joseph Vogel

Ernest Joseph Vogel was born January 8, 1941 to William and Minnie (Matzke)Vogel in Springfield. He attended and graduated from Springfield High School in 1958. Ernie served in the Army from 1959 to 1964, serving some of his time as a paratrooper. On November 5, 1966, he was united in marriage to Nancy Roiger at St. Raphael's Catholic Church. He worked for Mathiowetz Construction in his early years and farmed with his brother Tony throughout his life, retiring in 2006. Ernie enjoyed working outdoors- his passion was farming, planting and caring for trees, CRP, and wildlife. Ernie enjoyed time with his grandchildren, hunting, and playing cards especially Sheephead. His favorite past time was driving around with Tony. He was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church and the Springfield American Legion. Ernie also sat on the Soil and Water Conservation Board. He will always be remembered as a hard worker and willing to help with anything. Ernie died on August 27, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife Nancy of Springfield; children - Tim (Jill) Vogel of Springfield, Dan (Connie) Vogel of Comfrey, Pat (Amy) Vogel of Springfield, Becky (Brian) Veenstra of Springfield, Mark (Anita) Vogel of Lamberton, Mike (Christie) Vogel of Springfield, Bill (Mel) Vogel of Comfrey; 19 grandchildren; siblings - Wenzel "Tony" Vogel and Eleanor Teicher both of Springfield; in-laws - Eileen Vogel, Alvin Wille, Elmer Meine, and Arlene Vogel. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren - Luke and Leo Vogel; siblings - Christine Wille, Rose Meine, Sylvester Vogel, William Vogel, and Swede Halvorson; and brothers-in-law- Lowell Halvorson and Mike Teicher.
