Erna Wellnitz

Erna Sophia Wellnitz was born on January 31, 1928 in Redwood Township, MN to Henry and Minnie (Hidenmann) Mammenga. She married Albert Wellnitz on February 4, 1950. As a farmer's wife north of Sleepy Eye she worked side by side with her husband on the family farm until they retired and moved to Sleepy Eye. She was also appreciated for her great skills in the kitchen. Erna and Albert had four children, Linda, Steve, Tammy and later John. John kept them young for many years. They loved to travel and see as much as they could while there health allowed. She was active with the church circle at Faith United Methodist Church and TOPS. Erna created many wonderful friends. Erna is survived by her children, Linda Eischens of Le Sueur, Steve (Deb) Wellnitz of Prior Lake, Tam (Keith) Allison of Evan, John (Sonya) Wellnitz of rural Sleepy Eye, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sisters, Mae Reynolds of Redwood Falls, Betty Welke of Baraboo, WI, Darlene (Bob) Voltz of Phoenix, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert in 2011, granddaughter, Katherine Allison, brother, Harold and sister, Judy.
