Erma Colburn

Erma Colburn was born in Bashaw Township, Brown County to Fritz and Emma (Prahl) Buddensiek on June 12, 1920. As an infant she was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield. Erma was instructed for confirmation by Reverend William Lehman at Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey in 1933. She attended School District 52 in Bashaw Township and was united in marriage to Robert Colburn in 1941 at Salem Lutheran Church. As a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Erma was a choir member for several years, was a member of the Women's Group, and taught Sunday School for 9 years. She worked at Luksik Store, Borreson Clothing Store, Super Valu Grocery, and Schneider Drug. Erma also helped her husband in his De Kalb seed corn business and his Repair and Sales store. Erma lived in Comfrey since 1941 before moving to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield in 2005. She enjoyed entertaining, traveling, singing, and cooking. Erma Colburn died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the age of 91 years. She is survived by son Ron and wife Kathleen Colburn of Lake Crystal; grandchildren- Samantha (John) Bowen of Ellicott City, MD, Zac (Lisa) Colburn of Plymouth, and Jon Colburn of Maplewood; 1 great-grandchild; sister Edith King of Springfield; and sisters-in-law- Rosella Buddensiek and Myra Colburn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert in 1982; brothers- Melvin and Roland Buddensiek; and sister Hilda Heller.
