Enrique Maciel

Enrique Oregon Maciel, age 70, of Butterfield, died at his home on Sunday, May 27, 2012. Funeral services will be 1:00PM, Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James with Rev. Matthew Natsis officiating. Burial will be at the Butterfield City Cemetery in Butterfield. Visitation will begin at Noon on Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Enrique was born January 23, 1942, at EL Valle Guerrero, Mexico, to parents Isauro and Bacilia Oregon Maciel. He grew up on the family farm where he help on the family farm until joining the Mexican Army age 18. He served in the military from 1960 until 1968, during that time he helped build the subway sytem in Mexico City and played an extra in a John Wayne movie filmed in Mexico. In 1968, he moved to the United States and worked as a migrant farmer doing custom harvesting. He lived in Yakima, Washington, Southern California before moving to Lincoln, MN, where he worked for Green Giant and in a turkey processing plant in Litchfield. In October 1977, he moved to Butterfield and worked for Butterfield Foods until his retirement in 2005. Enrique took pride in his yard care and loved making his place look good. He enjoyed spending time in nature, fishing and gardening. He adored his grandchildren and took pride in all of his children. Two of his greatest enjoyments were becoming a US Citizen in 2005 and winning a scratch off lottery grand prize. He also enjoyed Sunday drives. He is survived by his children; George (Rachel) Gonzalez of St. James, Yolanda Gonzalez (Jorge Escobar, Jr.) of Mission, TX, Karen Maciel (Manuel Rodriquez) of Butterfield, Roberta Maciel (Jose Vidana) of St. James, Chantal Maciel of Mankato, ex-wife; Flor Hernandez of Butterfield, 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, siblings; Macedonia of Mazatlan Sinaloa, MX, Justina of Chula Vista, Guerrero, MX, Roberto of Mexico City D.F., MX, Sarah of Santa Fe, NM, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son; Henry Jr. at birth, parents, brothers; Efrain, Isaias, and sister Sarah.
