Emily Agnes (Hovdet) Whitehead was born January 4, 1939 in Mountain Lake, MN to Arnold and Emelia Kjobstad Hovdet. She was raised in the Odin area and graduated from St. James High School with the Class of 1957. On October 31, 1959 she married William A. Whitehead at Zion Lutheran Church in Odin. She worked several years for Tony Downs Foods in Butterfield and St. James and for the last six years worked at the St. James Library. Emily enjoyed gardening, canning, Vikings football, spending time with her friends, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Emily was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. Emily is survived by three daughters; Julie Miller and husband Kenny of Truman, Denise Dangler and husband Mark of New Jersey, and Debbie Oeltjenbruns and husband Mike of St. James; four sons, Jeff Whitehead and wife Nadine of Kansas, William Whitehead and wife Kim of St. James, Ron Whitehead and wife Val of Spencer, IA, and Stephen Whitehead and wife Kim of Mankato, MN; 15 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers, James Hovdet and wife Iona of Butterfield and Lester Hovdet and wife Diane of Truman; one sister, Shirley Haler and husband LaVern of St. James; one aunt, Hilda Anderson of Springfield; brothers and sisters-in-law; James and Barb Whitehead, Robert and Sue Whitehead, Marvin and Pat Whitehead, Shirley Ingalls, and Dorothy and Don Bourguin; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was proceded in death by her husband Bill in May of 1997, her parents, her father and mother-in-law, Maxwell and Elva Whitehead, and many other relatives.
